A nice fall tour of the Kettle Moraine region of lower Wisconsin was sponsored by the Lakes Region Quattro Club. Weather was supposed to be better than this, but it wasn't. Overcast and even drizzling at times, it was not "scenic" weather by any stretch of the imagination. My ride was not my '91 90q20v, unfortunately. Due to a bum fuel pump check valve, I decided that we'd take Paul Nimbley's '99 A4 1.8tq. Chipped nicely by Wetterauer, adorned with clear corners, smoked side markers, an A!AvantGarde sport grille, and a kick-ass stereo, we headed out from Arlington Heights around 8:30AM. Grabbing "breakfast" Mac and Don's Supper Club along the way, we navigate Route 12 westward. Not surprisingly, Christopher Tipper, in his pearlescent-white 90q appeared behind us. A few friendly waves and we're off together for Lake Geneva. Spotted a pearlescent-white CQ with IL vanity plates along the way, but apparently, he/she was not interested in the drive, as they never showed up. We got to the Wal-Mart early, but were greeted by a small corral of Audis already lined up. Soon, S4s started pouring in like they gave them away at a flea market last week. A pearl one, a red one, a Nagaro blue one. Yikes, tons of them. After some chit chat and event coordination stuff, we staged and were off. The drive was uneventful for us. We switched drivers at the halfway point, giving me my second chance to drive Paul's car. With the Wett chip, it pulls nicely. Christopher followed us closely, as his 4 year old son was probably not up to the task of navigating. Christopher had many advantages: he knew the roads better, his car handled better, and he was a better driver. But, we still had a good time. See some pictures below.
