Here are a few notes I gleaned from the 20v mailing list that I found useful. I am sorry that I didn't include references, but I think this came from Patrick Yam on the list. I'm sorry I can't give credit where credit is due.

Notes about dimensions:
For bolts, washers and nuts, the Remarks column give the dimension:

  • Bolt M6x10 means (M)etric, 6 mm diameter, 10 mm long
  • Bolt M16x1.5x87 means (M)etric, 16 mm diameter, 1.5 filet, 87 mm long
  • Bolt M10x45x20 means (M)etric, 10 mm diameter, 45 mm long, 20 mm filet length (Not sure for the last dimension)
  • Nut M10 means (M)etric, 10 mm diameter (internal)
  • Washer A13x24x2.5 means 13 mm internal diameter, 24 mm external diameter,2.5 mm thick. I don't know what the A stand for, may be (A)luminium.When the filet or the head is not mentioned, it means it's the regular filet or head for this diameter. It can also mean that the guywho wrote the Family Album was too lazy to indicate them as I've seen the front axle-bolt with diameter, filet size but no lengthmentionned! Anyway, for reference, the standard filets are
    • M6: 1 mm
    • M8: 1.25 mm
    • M10: 1.5 mm
    • M12: 1.75 mm
    • M16: 2 mm

Non-standard filet are pretty hard to find.I think BM means shouldered metric bolt or nut but I'm not sure. When you see self-locking nut, it usually means nylon-nut but sometimes, it's a soft metal insert or a soft metal nut.Last but not least, some bolts and/or nuts are higher grade (stronger metal) and it's not mentioned in the remarks. Regular grade is 8something, it's the bolt you can find anywhere, the suspension bolts and nuts usually are grade 10something or 12something, much more difficult to find.Usually, you can keep the same bolts even if the Bentley say to change them but there is some exception: the axle bolt for example (when changing the CV Boot for example). Self-locking nuts have to be changed (they are not self-locking anymore when removed) and, personnaly, I change every nut I remove on the suspension, self-locking or not. I also tend to change the suspension bolts when I have to use a torch to loosen them. I may be a bit paranoiac but better safe than sorry.
