Nokia Operator Logos
Many of the newer Nokia GSM cellular phones allow you to change
what is called the "operator logo". That's usually the
little logo of your provider that is diaplyed on your phone's screen
when you are "in service". For me, it was the text "Voicestream".
Now that's great and all, but how about some Audi stuff?
First, let's give credit where credit is due. The pioneer I simply
followed is here:
http://a4.warp0.com/library/nokialogo.html
She's got logos there, but I'll go ahead and duplicate them here
for convenience (and in the horrible event that her site goes away).
To do this, you need some way to connect your Nokia phone to your
PC. I used IR, and the other author got a data cable. Then, you
need some software that will allow you to upload operator logos
to your phone. Carol used Nokia
Logo Express, I got a copy of LogoManager.
Then, all you need is graphics and voila, you are done. Sure, read
on if that's not enough :).
Each phone has different capabilities and requirements. Here is
some information, and here
is more.
- Phones have different connections to use to get information
into them:
Infrared, phone-to-phone infrared, cable, internet (WAP)
- What customizable features (operator logos, ringtones, startup
logos, group graphics, picture messages, screen savers) that the
phone supports varies per phone
- The method to get any one custom feature into the phone varies
per phone
For my phone, I couldn't get ringtones and graphics over the internet
(WAP), or through SMS messages. I had to use a PC to upload stuff,
and only through Infrared. Your mileage may vary.
Carol gives information on using Nokia Logo Express. I used LogoManager,
and it's pretty easy to use. Simply connect your phone and open
LogoManager. Switch to edit the type of graphic you want (Operator
Logo in my case). Pick a properly formatted .bmp file with Explorer
and drag it to the graphic drawing area. That loads the .bmp and
displays it. Hit 'U' to upload to your phone! (Or, File->Upload).
If you have problems or do not have the hardware to do this on
your phone (no IR, or no cable), I may be able to send you the graphic
and ringtones through an SMS message if you have a GSM phone. I
am more than willing to give it a shot. LogoManager supposedly lets
me send stuff to another phone through SMS. I'll try. Just email
me.
