Update 28 Jun 2003 from Mr. Royal

It's only taken about 3 years, but I'm building another one for
Bonnie's car and the part #'s for the thing are:

Dynomax Race Muffer (4 inch, 2 x 2.5" ID in/out for resonator) 24215
Dynomax Super Hemi Turbo (for rear muffler) 17748

Cheap money..mine's 3 years old and starting to peel away, but has held
up very well thru out NE winters... can't beat the price.... about $200
including parts and custom welding and all other 2.5" ID pipe...

See Dynomax.com for a PDF and specs.

The Run Down

From a 20v list posting sometime in February, 2001 re-posted 25 Sept 2001 by Peter Schulz (further down, you will see quoted discussions with other list members):

Hi Scott et al,

The system that I had built was based on discussions with lots of
folks that I trusted to be in the know both on flow characteristics and the
Audi I5. The person I listened to the most was none other than you
Scott...mostly because you were the last person I talked to, one of the most
knowledgeable folks I know in these circles, and because the info you gave
me was not a grand departure from my own thinking on this and other
knowledgeable folks I talked to.

The exhaust that resulted can be seen at:
http://www.mchang.org/audi/tech/royal_rogue/

I am very, very happy with its performance. I have not lost any
noticeable low end, and who can say for sure without a dyno, but I can get
to speeds heretofore unobtainable on the track even at 260,000 miles. It's
relatively quiet at highway speeds and has a nice growl when you're "on it."

Again, the exhaust was custom welded using heavy duty 2.5 inch pipe,
a Walker Dynomax Race Muffler for the resonator (2.5" I/O, 4" center), and a
Hemi Super Turbo Dynomax with 2.5" I/O measuring about 20"x10"x5" (someday
I'll get the damn part number). It was completed for about $225 with parts
and labor.

I challenge someone to make something better...not to be cocky...but
in the name of science ;-).

People on this list who have seen and heard my system are Chris
Miller, Peter Schulz, Dan Simoes, and a few other assorted folks.

Have fun... I look forward to hearing about what other folks are
doing.

Parts and Prices

From Paul:

Rear Muff = $45-$55
Center Res = $40-$45
Pipes and labor about $150 (should be enough)

Again, the exhaust was custom welded using heavy duty 2.5 inch pipe,
a Walker Dynomax Race Muffler for the resonator (2.5" I/O, 4" center), and a
Hemi Super Turbo Dynomax with 2.5" I/O measuring about 20"x10"x5" (someday
I'll get the damn part number). It was completed for about $225 with parts
and labor.

And an addendum by Jerry McDonnell:

After looking at the Pics and going to the Dynomax
site, I think the part #s are the following;

The Race muffler looks like it's #24215
The Hemi mufflew looks like it's #17733 or #17734 or
17748 or 17749?

And ther is a #17786 with 2 2.25 outlets that would
match the stock rear muffle outlets.

Anybody want to guess at the right one?
