I had a set of 205-60-15 Bridgestone Potenza RE930 on my 88
5000squattro. I traded the car with those tires, but I still see it at
the dealer (a VW tech bought it).
After 2 years, they still look like new.

Im sold on bridgestones and have RE71 225/45/17's on my A4. Before I got
the RE's I had a set of Firestone SH30s on the 16" wheels for about 2
weeks. Excellent for regular driving, just not for me. Luckily, the
tires have a 30 day moneyback guarantee as most of the
firestone-bridgestones do.

Check out the tirerack at www.tirerack.com to see the prices.
Good Luck with that 'new' car!

Welcome, Mark...Bridgestone Potenza RE 930, from Tire Rack. Size 195/60 R14
They stay round, and keep their balance, while giving you very good
traction and ride at 30psi. I am on my 2d set, after disappointment with
Dunlop and Firestone.

Tire Test Results
An aggressively precise high-performance all-season tire, the H-speed
rated Potenza RE930 is engineered to give you rapid response, brisk
handling, and powerful grip.

Check Tire Rack website at http://www.tirerack.com They are
described as follows:

"As part of the next generation of Potenza performance tires, the RE930
incorporates revolutionary Bridgestone technology, including a radically
different VRG (variable radius groove) inspired tread design which ejects
water with a side to rear spray for exceptional wet performance and dry
traction-with significantly less risk of hydroplaning. The result is an
all-season, high performance tire that can perform all year long. Along
with Bridgestone's standard warranty, it also includes their Platinum Pact
warranty, a 40,000 mile treadwear warranty, and a 30 day test drive
guarantee. We feel the RE930 is the "sportiest" of the high performance
allseason tires. "

I believe many will recommend the Dunlop D60A2. I personally didn't like
it that much (so's the listmeister). I'd recommend Bridgestone RE930 or
the RE940. If your place doesn't snow, then try to go for the RE940.
Otherwise, the RE930 is a decent all-seasons tire.

I've had no good luck with Firestone Tires at all. They seem to have
very poor traction.

If you are looking for summer tires, the Dunlop SP 8000 that came on my
A4 behaved nicely, even in the snow and ice we just had. I bought but
have not installed yet (so I have no experience with them yet) a set of
Pirelli asymmetrico's on steel wheels from Tire Rack to use this winter,
but I wasn't going to install them until December 1.

Hi Mark,

I've got Dunlop D60A2's (jlb) on my '85 and I'm satisfied with 'em in the
mostly dry SF Bay area. Paid $54.95 ea. (not including mounting/balancing).

HTH,
Tony

Dear Mark,

Congradulations. Hope you enjoy your Quattro as much as I have enjoyed mine.

I had a 1986 4Kcsq for about seven years. I ran Toyo's on them (don't
remember the model but they are the H rated versions). They were resonably
priced and seemed to preform well on dry and wet pavement. Also did well in
the snow. My Quattro preformed better with those tires than any other car I
ever had with four spiked snow tires. They lasted about 40,000.

Hope this helps, and again, enjoy your new car.

Tire Rack	Yokohama A378

In the $55 per tire range. Decent tire.

If you're interested. I have a set of them with a few thousand miles
on them. I would be certainly willing to give you a tread depth
reading and work out a price. The car they are on is totalled and all
of my other cars use 15" tires. The ones i have are 195/65-14. I did
this to get a little more rubber on the road and to cut my sidewall
flex a little. They ride very nice and have good traction in snow and
rain. They fit really well on the 6" wide wheel and would be just
fine even on a 5.5" wheel.

If you want any more info, please email me.

We've had very good luck with the Bridgestone RE-930s. Just put on set
number three. The one thing that must be watched is air pressure. If you
let them get low they are MUCH more prone to hydroplane. When properly
inflated they provide excellent wet and dry weather service.
This is a performance oriented tire, stiff sidewalls, etc. So turn in
is crisp. They will stiffen up the ride. If you want a touring tire,
Bridgestone or Yokohama (sp?) have good stuff. We have Yokohamas on the SAAB
9000. They have done well on that car. It is my wife's car, so touring
tires (softer ride) were mandatory.

I recently installed a set of 195/60-14 BF Goodrich Comp T/A HR4 M&S rated
tires on my 4kcsq. These were recommended to me by other listers. I paid
$52 each for them at a local Discount Tire store (plus all the
mount/balance/tax jazz).

I have been very pleased. They have been quiet, reasonably smooth, andthey
even handle nicely (tried them at a recent driver training seminar on their
small "autocross" type course.

Since they are also warranteed for 50k miles, I expect great things from
them. My last set was some Yokohama eom-type crappers that lasted 40k
miles, and were lumpy and noisy for most of them...

You won't go wrong with the BFG's...BTW, welcome to the gang!

For the smaller Audis (like my wife's 90Q20V), I heartily recommend
the BFG Touring T/A. Got them for about $50-$55 each mounted.

For the larger Audis (like my 100Q), I recommend the BFG Comp T/A VR4.

There is a new Comp T/A HR4-2, which might also be a good choice
for the smaller cars.

Avoid all season tires if possible. You should enjoy good results from
Yokohama A509's for spring, summer and fall. Try Nokian Hakka 1's
for the white stuff! Enjoy the q.
